Rocketship Education

Rocketship Education is a nonprofit public charter school network whose headquarter is in California. It was founded in 2007 by Preston Smith and John Dinner. The public charter schools are using an adaptive software as a learning model thus increasing the students’ achievements. There are more than 15 charter schools that are located in Redwood City, San Jose, Concord California, Nashville, Washington D.C. and also in Milwaukee.

Rocketship Education has been working with parents, educators and community organizations. This has ensured that the low-income children from San Jose get quality education thus assuring them a place in the college in the future. 25 new high-performance public charter schools serve low-income communities that were established after the first class was launched in 2007.

Various studies have proven that poor students and English language learners in San Jose are gaining about a month of additional learning per year. This is in maths and reading. These schools are therefore essential due to the great job they do.

Another critical factor that boosts the students’ achievements is the partnership of some districts with these charter schools. Franklin McKinley Schools District is one of the communities that are becoming quite influential.

There are some leaders who lender critical support to the charter schools. For instance, Reed Hastings who is the Netflix CEO recently donated $ 100 million to support the education locally. Mark Zuckerberg who is the Facebook CEO together with his wife, Priscilla Chan have also decided to commit a significant portion of their wealth in technology and education investments.

Although the Rocketship Education charter plans to operate like all neighborhood schools, some opponents argue that it will bring unnecessary competition. They think that these schools will compete with nearby traditional elementary institutions, e.g., Santon Elementary. However, this is not the case. The schools will help many needy students. It aims to mix traditional teaching with computer-assisted online instructions thus keeping administrative costs low.

Rocketship Education encourages parent – involvement in their programs. Parents are allowed to join job interviews in certain fashions. This will positively impact the children’s education in all campuses of the public charter schools.
