It was April 6, Friday, when the FBI seized the website Backpage.com. It also resulted in the arrest of the site’s owners Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin. It was a very bad news for Michael Lacey, who’s just about to celebrate his marriage on Saturday – where he will host a party. But the celebration turned to detention when the day before the party occurred the arrest of Lacey.
On the other hand, Jim Larkin was also arrested at the same time on his home at Paradise Valley. Many witnesses say that the FBI agents arrived and seized Lacey and Larkin, along with their possessions.
The two are known to be long-time business partners back in Phoenix. They even grew and owned an alternative news corporation around the nation. Now, Both are now in custody for a serious case.
Going back to the duo’s business history, Larkin and Lacey sold Village Voice Media, a brand they are popular for, in 2012 due to their interest in purchasing an online listings site called Backpage.com. However, this site is already fighting various allegations that the site is a listing for sex services – making it a brothel on the web. Sex trafficking has been linked to the activities done on the site as well. However, they eventually sold the site to Carl Ferrer in 2015. But by the time this has occurred, there were already various proofs and allegations of sex trafficking in the site. That means Larking and Lacey can still fight for the case.
However, the indictment in regards to the site counts to 93 – which is severe. Along with the indictment is a list of 7 personalities involved in the anomalous activities; Larkin and Lacey are the known ones among the seven. It is very ironic as the two media giants founded a site that publishes First Amendment-related news and issues to the public.
But despite releasing Front Page Confidential this last 2017, they seem to be involved with sex-related crimes. This issue caused a huge spark in social media in regards to morality issues nowadays.
