History of NuoDB

NuoSB is a database software company that was launched in 2010 by Jim Starkey and Barry Morris. Traditional monolithic databases were created more than 30 years ago. As the founders of NuoDB, Barry Morris and Jim Starkey wanted to develop a database that uses the power of SQL, or Structured Query Language, which is used to communicate with a database, to push relational databases beyond the 30-year-old traditional database.

Out of the four original cloud databases, three of the CEOs back NuoDB. Some of NuoDB’s senior management team are made up of former executives from companies such as Microsoft, IONA Technologies, Oracle, Teredata, Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, Qlik, Object Design, Veracode,Broad Vision, StreamBase Systems, Endeca, Iron Mountain, and ExaGrid.

15 months after it was founded, NuoDB received a patent after the U.S. Patent & Trademark made a “no prior art” discovery. Since Then, NuoDB has five other patents pending. NuoDB’s main headquarters are located in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
